- There
is no information on how much Boeing has invested up
to now in the Sonic Cruiser, its fastest aircraft,
project. Its market price is not known either and
they are neither sure about its taking service in
2008, as it is promoted. Ah, its external appearance
is not known either (and much less its interior).
Everything seems to be in the air, except the plane.

The
Air Cargo forum showed that the main routes of cargo air
traffic go through the great North America- Europe- Asia
axis. Nevertheless the Latin American market is on the
great operators sights for being the region that less
felt the September 11th after-effects. A
report by Agustín Barletti from Hong Kong.

three weekly frequencies to Miami, the Southern
Winds Boeing 767-300s pretend to impose a new
concept in respect to serviced on board. Cargo is
not neglected either, to the point its holds have a
90% occupation. The airline is already planning new
international destinations. A report by Agustín
Barletti from Miami.

Changing course

Marinair,
the Dutch airline, never paid much attention to
exports from Argentina and chose to devote its
interest to imports. However, the peso devaluation
vis-à-vis the dollar modified the behavior of the
market and the plans of the company.

A
plan for Varig
The
Banco Nacional de Desarrollo Económico de Brasil proposes to issue some
300 million dollars in external bonds to bring capital to the “Smiles”
division of Varig. The company that buys this sector – corresponding to
mileage – will receive 20% of the entire share package of the Brazilian
airline, which registered losses for 320 million dollars in the first
semester of the current year. In
the next few days, a widely encompassing financial diagnose of Varig’s
situation will be submitted by KPMG, the consulting firm hired by the
Rubem Berta Foundation to draw up a business plan for the airline. Once
this period is over, the Foundation and the creditors of the company, led
by Unibanco, will analyze the study, which might include proposals for
mergers and the sale of some of the eleven companies of the group, amongst
other possibilities of sales or mergers of assets.
New
airline in Uruguay
The
new enterprise Uruguay Fly will begin flying next December. This company,
owned by Uruguayan and US capital, will offer frequencies to Buenos Aires,
Mendoza, Santiago de Chile, Asunción, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Rio de
Janeiro and Curitiba. They will use six Embraer planes, in whose leasing
the company is investing over 180 million dollars, according to what the
head of the company, Antonio Rama advanced to the Uruguayan newspaper El
País. The airline also intends to incorporate seasonal tourist
destinations, such as Bariloche, El Calafate, Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia in
Argentina, as well as the Brazilian city of Florianópolis.
